MEXICO, Pampanga—The Pampanga I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PELCO I) has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AES Philippines-Masinloc Power Partners Corporation Limited (AES-MPPCL) for the tapping of solar energy as part of their source of electricity.
AES-MPPCL is an international company that produces electricity through its coal-fired power plants. With its initiative of using renewable energy and in support to the global awareness of preserving the environment, the said company is now tapping the power of the sun to produce electric power.
Under the MOU, PELCO I shall determine the place within its franchise areas, where solar panels, storage cells and other equipment shall be installed by AES-MPPCL. The electric power produced shall then be made part of the latter’s supply of electricity being purchased by PELCO I.
In an interview with Mr. Gonzalo Julian, Jr., AES-MPPCL’s Chief Executive Officer said that their company is supporting the global campaign on using renewable energy. He said that they are now embarking on solar power source with PELCO I as their partner for their pilot solar project.
He added that this is merely the start of AES-MPPCL’s move on using clean energy and that they will later on be using other sources such as wind or water electricity generators.
Meanwhile, PELCO I’s general manager Engr. Loliano Allas said that they are honored for being chosen by AES-MPPCL as its partner for the latter’s first solar power project. He added that aside from coal, renewable sources of energy are earth-friendly and can be made efficient and reliable sources of energy.
